A person who has lactose intolerance cannot produce sufficient lactase. Lactase is an enzyme needed to digest lactose. Lactose is the primary sugar found in milk and dairy products. When lactose is not digested, it stays in the gastro intestinal tract and there it cause problem such as vomiting and abdominal cramping.
Lactose and milk intolerance has the same symptoms but the two are greatly differing from each other. Lactose intolerance as we all know is due to insufficient lactase while milk intolerance is an allergy triggered by our immune system.
Lactose intolerance can be due to the following,
• Development lactase deficiency. In lactase deficiency, the body is likely to produce lactase. Lactase deficiency starts from childhood to adulthood.
• Acquired Intolerance. Acquired intolerance is cause by an illness like chron’s disease, celiac disease and acute gastro enteritis. These ailments can significantly drop the production of lactase.
• Genetic Lactose Intolerance. Lactose intolerance may also be a hereditary condition in which the baby inherits lactose intolerance from parents. Infant that inherit lactose intolerance cannot produce lactase at all.
People who are lactose intolerance find milk products to be sickening. If you are lactose intolerance, you may already find this feeling during pregnancy. Signs and symptoms of lactose intolerance may appear two hours after drinking milk or eating dairy products. Milk and dairy products will make you feel nauseated, cramps, flatulence, diarrhea and digestion.
Common problem of pregnant women who have lactose intolerance is calcium. We all know that milk constitute almost 1/3 of calcium needs. When a pregnant woman cannot drink milk where would she get calcium? There are lots of foods where you can get calcium content that is same with milk. Foods that can be substitute for calcium found in milk are the following, leafy green vegetables, so ya, broccoli, salmon and nuts.  |
