You are so happy and almost jump with joy when you felt the fetus move inside your uterus. When is the first fetal movement (quickening) occur? The fetal movement happens during its first day of the fourth month of pregnancy. If you forgot how many months is your pregnancy, recall when the first quickening was or fetal movement you experienced, from that first movement, the fetus is already six months.
Fetal movement or quickening is very hard to distinguish between gas movement and baby’s movement, since the two almost has the same characteristics. But soon you will be able to know and differentiate the two.
By the time the baby enters four months, the reflexes starts to develop. It is the time when the fetus stretch and flex its limbs and extremities. The first reflex is a dull quickening of the uterus, often mistakenly believe to be a gas moving in your stomach, but the truth is it’s the fetus’ first move.
As the pregnancy gets further, the movement is more frequently and regularly. By the time the fetus is nearing eight months, the movement becomes less as the fetus has grown bigger and the movement is limited from the uterus.
By the beginning of seven months, you can start counting fetal movements, in this way you can assess whether the baby has congenital problem or defect or is normal.
By the time the fetus reach to nine months, the fetus will decrease movement because this time, the fetus occupy almost all of the uterus and movement is almost impossible to do. When the fetus does not move during this stage, do not worry, there is nothing wrong with your baby. The only reason why the fetus seldom moves is that, it is difficult for the fetus to move freely. |
