Understanding Postpartum Mood Disorder

A lot of topics are written about postpartum mood disorder, pointing to women who did a terrible thing while in the verge of postpartum lunacy. Post partum depression can be very hard to over come. When these beliefs are not met, the mother feel depressed and post partum mood disorder develop. During pregnancy, the hormonal level of a woman increases by up to 30 percent higher than when a woman is not pregnant. After delivery, hormones significantly decrease 30 percent lower than the normal. This sudden drop of hormones can affect significantly to depression.
A family member plays a very important role in helping a mother bring back to her old self. The assurance that you will not leave her and would help her to carry out this task is a great move to help her recover easily. Giving her hope and assurance is the biggest factor we can contribute to bringing her back to her self again.
Helping her with her daily tasks and especially in caring her new born would lighten your mood. Let her know that each family member understand what she is going through. Remember that postpartum depression is very much curable.
