Babies, from the time they were born are so helpless that even their saliva is just licking out on their mouths. By the time he reaches 3 months onwards, spitting becomes excessive and succeeding. Spitting is normal to babies for many reasons.
When a baby inhale together with his milk and food, the air is trapped in the liquid, and because air is a movable gas, it has to come out of the milk and when the air comes out, so does the liquid and spitting happens.
Babies from 0 months to 1 year need to take in a lot of nutrients, so that he will be nourished physically and mentally. This is one reason why babies would eat just anything that puts in his mouth, because of over feeding, the food then over flows and so the baby spit it.
It is important for parents and baby sitter to discipline baby’s eating, as baby’s cannot yet determine when to stop eating and or drinking milk formula, as parents we need to be very vigilant in feeding our baby, when to feed the baby and when to stop feeding him.
A baby’s digestive system is immature yet; the esophageal muscle which is responsible for entering of food is still unstable and need to be fully developed as yet. This is the same reason why your baby after taking in of foods will vomit immediately.
When feeding a baby, hold him in an upright position if he is an infant carry your baby with his head a little higher than his body or in a slanting position. When feeding keep your baby calm and relax. If your baby drink milk formula in a feeding bottle makes sure that the nipple has tiny holes in order that the air will not interact with milk. Do not forget to burp your baby after feeding.
Babies spitting will disappear when he reach his first year. Parents will have to be very patient while their baby is on the stage of spitting food. |
