A pre term labor is easy to detect. It manifest a uterine contraction before due date arrives. When there is a presence of uterine contraction, the cervix naturally will open and because the pregnancy has not come to nine month old, it falls to a pre term labor. When a pre term labor falls during seven months, the possibility of survival is very high, but below that would be critical to the fetus and may even lead to death.
Women who have an abnormal shape uterus are most likely to have a pre term labor. The normal shape of a uterus is like an inverted pear shape and the position is slightly bent forward or anteverted. Abnormal shapes are heart shape uterus, retroverted uterus and two sided uterus. A woman with myoma is also at risk of having a pre term labor.
Women who have had several abortions are also at high risk in developing a pre term labor. A previous stillbirth may also contribute of having a pre term labor. Placental abnormalities such as placenta previa and abruptus interuptus are also a contributing factor for pre term labor.
There are many reasons why a woman suffers from pre term labor. An excessive amniotic fluid in the uterus can aggravate pre term labor. Lack of prenatal care or no pre natal care at all and poor nutrition and malnutrition during pregnancy may lead to pre term birth. Bad habits such as cigarette smoking, drinking of alcoholic beverages and the use of drugs and certain medications are also contributory factors in a pre term labor.
Although most pre term labor cannot be avoided, there are certain cases where we can prevent it, like drinking at least eight glasses of water to prevent fluid loss. Loss of fluid or dehydration promotes uterine contraction. Urinate when you feel the urge to urinate. Stopping urine will cause urinary tract infection.
