Stillbirth happens when a fetus died at the time of delivery. Still birth is not categorized as miscarriage, because the reason of having a still birth may not be hormonal in nature. Stillbirth occurs during its full trimester, usually it reaches to nine months and then suddenly the fetus died before or during delivery.
The cause of stillbirth is still studied by the experts. Up to now there is no factual evidence why stillbirth happens. Some expectations are conjoined with stillbirth such as the following:
Infection due to bacteria among mothers
Pulmonary hypoplasia or incomplete and abnormal development of an organ among fetus.
Retarded growth or fetal abnormality
Diabetes and hypertension from the mother
Pre eclampsia and eclampsia because of sudden rise of blood pressure
Mothers bad habit like alcohol drinking, cigarette smoking, taking in of drugs or medications which is not advisable during pregnancy
Postpartum pregnancy and placental abruption
Traumatic experience from the mother which lead to mental distress
Prolapsed of umbilical cord
Because the fetus is inside the womb, we cannot identify how much time left before the fetus is considered dead. We can only detect it when the fetus is not moving anymore in the womb. But because of the inconsistency of fetal movement when the fetus is still alive, it is hard to detect the exact time of death.
When the fetus died inside the uterus, it does not give immediate risk to the mother. The pregnant mother can still hold the dead fetus in her uterus up to a week, but more than that it can already poison the mother. The woman will still have to deliver the dead fetus naturally or through the vagina. Unless other wise a complication arises, only then shall a cesarean section will be recommended by a gynecologist or Obgyne. |
