Pregnancy Fetal Development
Fetal Development-4 to 6 months

At the beginning of four months, the baby starts to move, or what we call a Quickening. So mothers, if you have forgotten your gestational months, think when the first fetal movement was. You can be sure that was four months of pregnancy.
On its four months, the normal weight of a fetus is about 140g. The rubber like skeleton becomes harden and bone develops. The fetus began to play inside your uterus. The fetus began to pull, grab and suck the umbilical cord. But do not worry. The umbilical is not only designed as a means of getting food from the placenta. It is also designed as a toy inside the uterus, so that a fetus can play.
At four and a half months, the fetus weights around 180g. The chest begins to move just like when breathing. But instead of air, the fetus takes in amniotic fluid. Fetal defect can now be recognized through ultra sound. A 3D ultra sound will show how your baby moves. The fetus during this gestational age becomes energetic, he kicks, rolls, thumb suck and pulls the umbilical cord. It’s true you can even see the fetus smile.
The fetus remains to swallow he amniotic fluid, and the kidneys constantly discard urine. The fetal hair begins to grow and hairs around body parts (for some babies). The fetus begins to develop his sensory nerves. He can now smell, taste, hear and feel by touching. If you are carrying a girl fetus, she may have already developed around five to six hundred thousand eggs in her ovary.
At five months, the vermix caseosa begins to develop. Vermix caseosa is white sticky substance found in fetus skin and head right after birth. It serves as protection to baby’s skin and serves as a lubricant during the time of delivery. This stage, the fetus needs more iron. So be prudent in taking your iron supplement.
